What is culinary Medicine?

Culinary medicine is a new evidence-based field in medicine that blends the art of food and cooking with the science of medicine. It is aimed at helping people reach good decisions about accessing and eating high quality meals that help prevent and treat disease and restore well-being. It is a practice that helps improve patients conditions guiding what they eat and drink regularly. Food is medicine and special attention is given to how food works in the body as well as to the sociocultural and pleasurable aspects of eating and cooking.

What are the areas that you cover?

We are all different and each plan I create is unique to the individual. Some eating patterns have been found to be as or more effective than prescription medication for some conditions: an anti-inflammatory eating pattern for rheumatoid arthritis; a ketogenic diet for epilepsy; a Mediterranean eating pattern for cardiovascular disease, advanced colon cancer, and type 2 diabetes. Whether your goal is to lose weight, reduce anxiety, manage skin breakouts, better your gut health or boost your immune system, a plan will be created specially for you to help you achieve your lifestyle goals.

Working alongside your healthcare professional a culinary practitioner can guide you to eat the best foods that will help improve your health & wellbeing, treat any condition and enrich your life. A culinary practitioner can create recipes that contain ingredients specific to your body’s nutritional needs. They can teach you which foods to eat and which to avoid, to help support you. They can also explain food labelling, which ingredients to embrace and which to steer clear of.

Who do you work with?

Cooking has been my passion ever since qualifying as a Cordon Bleu chef. Culinary creativity has always come naturally, and having been fortunate to cook for many people in different industries, I understand how creating delicious food can excite and bring people truly together.
